Meet GENE Commerce, one of the five agencies behind Mage Camp 2026. A specialist eCommerce agency focused exclusively on Adobe Commerce and Magento, GENE has spent more than a decade building on, contributing to and helping shape the platform and the ecosystem around it.
About GENE Commerce
GENE is a specialist eCommerce agency focused exclusively on Adobe Commerce and Magento.
The agency works with ambitious merchants at critical points in their eCommerce evolution. Sometimes that's a major transformation or replatform. Sometimes it's taking over a platform that's become difficult to manage, stabilising it and rebuilding confidence. And sometimes it's helping an established eCommerce team work out what to do next and then delivering it.
GENE's approach combines deep engineering capability with strategic product thinking. The team is as comfortable getting into the detail of complex integrations, architecture and checkout as it is helping merchants shape roadmaps, prioritise investment and turn their platform into something that supports where the business is heading.
Today, more than 60 eCommerce specialists at the company support merchants across B2C, B2B and international commerce, from high-growth businesses to complex global estates.
But while the businesses and challenges GENE works with have evolved considerably, one thing hasn't: the platform at the heart of what the agency does.
Magento is where GENE started.
The company has been working with the platform for well over a decade, and rather than broadening into every commerce technology that came along, the agency made a deliberate decision to go deeper.
That depth has given the brand the opportunity to contribute to the platform itself.
GENE created BlueFoot CMS to solve Magento's content management limitations, launching it to the community at Magento Imagine in 2016. Magento subsequently acquired BlueFoot and developed the technology into what is now Adobe Commerce Page Builder.
The agency's relationship with the platform has continued to evolve since then. Today it's an Adobe Gold Partner and the UK's only Platinum Member of the Magento Association. GENE works directly with Adobe on the development of Adobe Payment Services and with PayPal on its official Adobe Commerce integration, technology used by thousands of merchants around the world.
The company has also continued to build and release products of its own, from BlueFinch's tools for building and patching Magento sites to new commerce experiences such as ShopThru.
That history matters to the brand because its relationship with Magento and Adobe Commerce has never just been about delivering websites on it. GENE has built on the platform, built products for it, contributed solutions back to it and grown as a business alongside the community surrounding it.
Why Mage Camp?
GENE wouldn't be the business it is today without the Magento community.
Over the years the agency has learnt from it, hired from it, built friendships and partnerships through it, contributed technology back into it and met merchants who have gone on to become long-term clients. It's one of the things that has always made Magento different.
The ecosystem works best when merchants, agencies, developers and technology partners share what they've learnt and challenge each other to make things better. It's also why the company became the UK's only Platinum Member of the Magento Association: the team believes that if you benefit from a community, you should play a part in strengthening it too.
Mage Camp felt like another opportunity for GENE to do exactly that.
Five agencies who compete with each other every other day have come together to create something they believe the UK Magento and Adobe Commerce community needs: an independent, not-for-profit event built around merchants and the challenges they're actually trying to solve.
And doing that collaboratively matters too. No single agency has all the answers. GENE brings its perspective and experience, the other organisers bring theirs, and the merchants, speakers and wider community bring something different again. That's exactly how a healthy ecosystem should work.
The agency has been part of this community for more than a decade. Mage Camp is another opportunity for the brand to put something back into it - and hopefully help create an event that the community wants to come back to year after year.
What merchants get out of it
- Free tickets for verified merchants, with a £50 option for agencies, vendors, freelancers and consultants who want to be in the room.
- Two tracks, one day of practical sessions on the topics that actually move the needle for a store: traffic, conversion, retention, AOV, AI and operations.
- Talks from people who've done it: merchants and specialists sharing honest experiences and lessons learned, rather than recycled conference decks or product demos in disguise.
- 12 months of session recordings included with every ticket, so the advice keeps paying off long after the day itself.
- A not-for-profit, community-first event, operated by the five agencies and backed by the Magento Association and Manchester Digital.
